Barefoot WHAT? Barefoot Awesome!!!

Man, I had an amazing run tonight. like 43f outside, raining and 5.08km barefoot. I wore my VFFs to the meeting place and a new lady says "are you really going to run in those?" "nope" was my reply and I took them off.

Questions fielded during and after the run,

How are your feet?.. fine! how are yours?
How do rocks feel when you run on them?..I try to avoid rocks because if I step on them it hurts, so it reminds me to not step on them.
How did that mud feel when you ran through it?.. muddy.
Are you nuts?.. probably.
People are really staring at you, doesn't that bug?.. how little you know about me. stick around long enough and you'll see that I believe that sometimes not caring is a good thing!

no blisters tonight, not tired, no general soreness. I can feel my calves, but not as much as last week. I purposely haven't run since last Wed, so I could be ready for the start of our half training program today.

•Barefoot mileage since June 29th : 23.7km
•VFF mileage since July 7th : 3.3km
•Shoe mileage since SOBF (start of barefoot): 5km (25:30 5k race PR on July 1st)

All good stuff!

  1. Sounds like you're getting the hang of it - now comes the tough part: keeping ego and ambition in check as your body continues to adapt. To avoid injury, do less than you want. Or, do what you want and experience some unnecessary pains and setbacks like the rest of us. Either way, it's cool as hell to take control of your running life.

  2. Yes, good stuff!

I did a 5K run last week and my ego and ambition gave me a fresh set of blisters.
I timed myself to see if I could keep up with BFJ in the race on Saturday.
ow. back to the shoes for now...

  3. ac: I'd rather have the company for 25 minutes than race alone for 20. So long as I get to cross the finish line first.

  4. BFJ: Id pay 10 bucks to see the last 100m of that race!
