Stuff on a Friday.

Doesn’t feel like a Friday, for 2 reasons. 1:I golfed yesterday. Any day I golf feels like Sunday. 2: I work tomorrow, so it really doesn’t matter that it’s Friday. The only thing that tells me it’s the weekend these days is that football is on. Thank goodness for football.

Onward! I have been incredibly remiss in my reporting on my favourite marathoner Martin Parnell. For those who haven’t been with this here blogger for too long, you may not know who he is. We hosted Martin back in May for one of his Marathons.

Marathon Quest 250

Martin Parnell will attempt to run 250 marathons in 2010. His goal is to raise $250,000 for Right To Play.

Right To Play is an humanitarian organization that uses sport and play programs to improve health, develop life skills, and foster peace with children and communities in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the world.

Right To Play also works in Canadian communities to inspire children and support their right to grow and learn through physical activity. More than 4,500 schools in Canada use the Right To Play program.

To raise $250,000, Martin will run all 250 marathons between January 1st and December 31st 2010. He'll cover a distance of 10,550km or 6550miles, which is approximately the same distance as a run from Cochrane to Boston then west through the US to Vancouver and back to Cochrane.

So far so good. Today he ran his 176th Marathon since Jan 1st. Martins Story is a good one and worth the read. He is a very good man, with a wonderful wife. He has had his challenges with regard to his physical health, but he is approaching the homestretch, so if can, send him a note over at Marathon Quest 250. I’m sure he’d appreciate the support.

Here is Martins stats from today's Marathon. Today he was at an elementary school. He spreads the word about Right to Play at area schools at least one a week.

  • Marathon: #176
  • Date: Friday Sept 24th 2010
  • Donations to date: $72,922.09
  • Course: Rosedale School
  • Run time: 5hr 49min 59sec (See Garmin Connect)
  • Aver. Heart Rate: 158 BPM (?)
  • Temperature C: 10C
  • Distance covered to date: 7,427.2km (4,611.2mi)
  • Total number of runners: 187

If you are so moved to help out his effort, you can donate money here.

Other Virtual Races for 10-10

I am having a blast watching the entries for the 2010 *10-10* Virtual Race. Thanks to everyone for playing, I can’t wait to here how everyone did!

We aren’t the only game in town. I guess 10-10-10 is significant in it’s own right, let alone my Birthday. Or maybe they are celebrating my Birthday? Actually, one is just for fun like mine is ( runningdivamom is way better at math than me, as proved by the metrics she uses to show how cool the number 10 is), but the other is for a great cause and it humbles me a bit to think about the challenges that others are facing and I am at a loss to come up with a good reason complain about my petty issues when strong people are dealing with real tough stuff.

Go on over to Jog for Joubert and sign up for their 10-10 race too. They don’t require a donation, just taking part is good as it raises awareness for these little angels afflicted with Jouberts Syndrome.

Make sure you take some time to look up from whatever you are doing. Look around for some perspective. It’s easy to find. Hug your kids. Appreciate what you have.

It’s HOT

We are expecting a really nice week of weather!! Finally! Summer! We only had 3 days over 85 this summer, so 75 is a HUGE deal at this time of the year!

Really cool race shirt.

Andrew Opala from Ontario is running his first 5k race this weekend. He has turned into the Run Blogger that everyone loves to love.

This shirt he made to race in, is a pretty good reason why he is a very popular blogger.

Here is a close-up of the section I’m on. That is pretty cool. This dude graduated Dale Carnegie at the top of his class, I’m sure.

Goodnight!

  1. What an amazing runner Martin Parnell is. Now I don't have anything against Dean Karnazes but we hear too much about him. I wish we heard more about people like Martin. Truly inspiring.
    The fence photo - amazing.

  3. Neil baby. We all did well. Thank you.

Thanks a lot for the simple info about chip time and gun time. It kept me from knocking down people in front of me in my race to get to the start!
