HA HA HA HA…. *WOOT*

Grieving over!!! Thanks to Barefoot Josh in (somewhere south of here), I am now cooler than I thought I was!

His comment I just received finalized the deal for me…

“All the cool kids get kicked out of something at some time or another.”

YEAH!!

My Training plan for Calgary Half Marathon on May 30th, 2010

My program has started, with Week 1, Monday March 8th as the beginning.

The speed workouts consist of 400m repeats at about 5k pace, with walking or jogging 400m between repeats to recover. Easy runs are just that, a recovery from the harder speed and distance workouts, run at a conversational pace. Sunday distance are made to be enjoyed while getting your body used to running far. Pace runs are run at my targeted race pace. Tempo is a little different. It is a gradual build-up of continuous running for 1/3 the allotted time, plateauing at a hard pace for 1/3 the time and then easy running for the final amount of time. Also, I like to race, so I will be sticking races in on occasion.

No hills… ;o)

Thanks…

… for the advice…

Take it easy.  And slow.  And follow directions.  If you need a physio let me know.  Sometime chiros end up not fixing the problem…I learned that the hard way. T.B.

I had a small tear in my right knee once as well, I had to rest briefly and then got back into running slowly and still had some pain for a while, but it eventually healed itself and I haven't had any trouble since.  You'll still do fine at the race and with this plan you will still feel good when you cross the finish line! T.O.

I totally know where you are right now. I've had a torn right meniscus (from yoga) that required surgery. The sudden injury totally changed my world as I was no longer able to run, cycle, hike, scramble and share these activities with my friends. I was able to do Pilates and some yoga, which strengthened my core to the point of making a career change to teach full time. So, kudos to you for taking a step back and healing with perspective. C.B.

Do as you say, not as you do, eh? Rest up and get better! Cross training maybe? I'll let you know how the pool treats my IT band pain! C.D.

Really suks D.D.

When it comes to running and the associated aches and pains, beware of doctors and other "experts". Don't trust anybody. The "experts" have been wrong about so many things, like stretching and shoes. For example, most doctors believe that running does permanent damage to your knees and will result in arthritic joints in old age, yet the evidence is the opposite. A good rule of thumb: if the pain gets worse as you run, then it needs rest. Otherwise, probably not serious.
Keep at it, and never give up! A.C.

So, to summarize: Follow directions, Heals itself, Pilates, cross train, Don’t trust anyone, Really suks.

Ok, where to start. Obviously… I won’t trust anyone… probably the easiest option.

Thanks for suggestions, but I don’t trust you.

Officially on rest…

… so says my chiropractor…

meniscus

I may have a micro tear in my right Meniscus, that is causing me some intermittent discomfort ranging from mild annoyance to near failure. The meniscus is the piece of goo that supports all the weight of all the running…

suks.

Also, my hip sockets may be tired.

suks also.

It adds up to the following in my mind. Don’t eat so much, to allow my body to lose weight (Really!?).. and take a bit of a break. Well, I tell others to look after themselves in this situation, so, I will do the same. I am going to stop running until March 8th when I will begin my 12 week plan for the Calgary half. I will NOT be attempting a PB at this race. My goals will be general health wellness, and an injury free race report on May 30th. I will focus my time in the gym toward good form and flexibility. I think I will be a much happier fellow on June 1st if I feel great and DON’T break my PB, as opposed to break a PB and never run again while waiting for surgery…

that's all…

suks.
