And now back to our regular programming.
Simply: Joy.
The Joy I get from running filters through to the rest of my life and I pretty much need it now. I love training, even the tough runs. The tough runs tend to define me. They are the ones that prove to myself that I can push through and and I get a TON of personal satisfaction in completing something I set out to do even though it may be very hard. Also, I enter lots of races because it gives me the accountability to my training that might get lost if I was just running. Oh yeah, I LOVE racing, so there is that too. I show up early, I stay late and I Freaking LOVE the camaraderie amongst runners! There is nothing better than the incredible energy at the start line!
I have never met better people in the world then the people I have met through running. I mean that.
I have made friends with front runners, casual runners, new runners, long time runners and my favorite people I have met in running are the volunteers and race organizers!
Everyone has their own reasons for being there and each reason is sincere and right! I want to be a HUGE part of running in general. My goals and aspirations go beyond my own personal records, beyond my own expectations, because I want to be a piece of the big running puzzle! I am not fast, or that good looking, but a LOT of people know who I am, or have heard of me here in the Calgary area, because I engage in my running.
Everytime I go for a run, I look for all the good things about what I am doing. At that moment. I tend to stay right in the moment when I run. I don’t look forward (it ruins the zen of the run) but just sit right there. Time always passes, so as long as I keep moving forward I will complete my task. Everytime. This includes time on the treadmill. There are no shortage of simple mind pleasures to see at the gym!
I have a pretty simple mind when I run as demonstrated here. I tend to run more on my own these days, so enjoying my own humor and thoughts is paramount to a good experience out there.
All that said, for me, running is about fitness, fun and people. Here are some of my favorite running people! Every one of these people have a HUGE part in why I run! Thank you to each and everyone of you. Lest I forget, You! Bloggers, Commenters and Stalkers! You make it SO much fun to write about all this. I have learned SO much from everyone of you. I could actually spend ALL day reading your stories and race reports, they are all so awesome. THANK YOU!
These are just a few examples of what I really care about, when it comes to running for me…

ReplyDeleteI love your pictures! I love racing, too. I'm not fast, or a very good runner, but I love the challenge of finding out that I can do things I never imagined I could do. And I, too, love the running community. Overall, one of the most welcoming groups I've ever come across.

ReplyDeleteNice post Neil! I love the spirit of this. I"m assuming this was your way of bouncing back from the seemingly less than positive dialogue that had happened in one of your last posts. If so, I applaud your spirit and tenacity very much! This is the sort of stuff running is all bout!
